What are the badges?
Nine merit badges, one per hobby track — from the Anglers to the Clay Crew. The quiz matches you to your first; finishing a track’s three Field Guide sessions earns it. A digital badge book is coming; until then the fridge is the trophy case, and honestly it might stay the trophy case.
Is this a subscription box?
No. One quiz, one kit, one hobby. You buy the starter kit once, the Field Guide scripts your first three sessions, and the hobby is yours after that. We’d rather you outgrow us.
Do I need to already know the hobby?
No — that’s the point. Every Field Guide assumes you know nothing and quietly teaches you one step ahead of your kid. Half our dads picked a hobby they secretly always wanted to learn.
What ages does this work for?
Kits are tuned for roughly ages 4–15, and the quiz weights everything by your kid’s age band. The sweet spot is 6–12 — old enough for real gear, young enough that Saturday with dad is still the best offer on the table.
What if my kid doesn’t take to it?
Your result always includes an alternate kit — the second-best fit from your answers. And the quiz is two minutes; kids change, answers change, matches change.
How much do the kits cost?
Most land between $75 and $200, all-in. Every kit page shows the exact per-item breakdown — real merchants, no markup mystery.
